Appointments

If you need to discuss a medical matter a telephone appointment will be arranged.

The GP might want to start a video consultation via your smart phone, or may arrange a further face to face appointment at the health centre.

Appointments System

The practice operates an appointment system only, with one appointment per person.

Please cancel any appointments that you no longer require as soon as possible.

GP appointments are booked for 10 minutes. Should you feel more time is needed for your consultation you may request this at time of booking.

If the GP feels it is not appropriate to deal with all your problem(s) within this time, they may request you to make a subsequent appointment.

Please note children under 14 should be accompanied by an adult.

How to Make an Appointment

Appointments can be made by telephoning the surgery or by calling at reception.

Surgery opening hours are 8:30 a.m. to 18:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Online appointments are also available via the link at the top of this page. Please contact the surgery to register for the service and to obtain the necessary log in details. These open up at 7:00 a.m. daily Monday to Friday.

Patients can book a phone call with a GP via patient access up to a week in advance.

We will endeavour to provide you with an appointment with the doctor/nurse of your choice but as this is not always possible, we will offer you a suitable alternative.

We also provide the option for patients to communicate with the practice via our online forms.

Urgent or Emergency Appointments

If you feel that your condition requires an emergency appointment, please ring the surgery as early as possible. An emergency appointment with an appropriate healthcare professional will be given to discuss one condition only. Depending on demand, waiting times do vary but there may be a significant waiting time.

We have a number of appointments set aside every day for patients who feel they have an urgent problem and need seen that day. To ensure these are appropriately allocated, you may be asked to provide brief information about why you are requiring an urgent appointment.

We do use an appointment system so patients who arrive at the surgery without an appointment will probably have to wait until those patients who have pre-booked an appointment have been seen.

This system which can offer urgent appointments to those patients in need, will not work if patients insist on using these urgent appointments when they only need a routine appointment.

Please be prepared for the GP to advise you during an urgent appointment if they consider that it was not clinically necessary for you to attend.

Minor Injuries Service

Patients with the following problems can attend the surgery instead of the Emergency Department:

  • foreign bodies in eyes
  • minor burns & scalds
  • head injury (where there has been no loss of consciousness).

You may also self-refer to a minor injuries unit. These are available in Ulster hospital ( 8 am to 6 pm, 7 days a week), Downe hospital and Lagan Valley. Please phone them prior to arrival on 028 91 510110

Home Visits

Home visits, unless in an emergency, should be requested before 10.30.

A doctor or nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to send a nurse, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance.

House visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability.

Please remember that several patients can be seen within the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. The GP surgery also offers better facilities for examining and treating patients.

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.
